Governor Reyes Faces Graft Raps

Governor Carmencita Reyes
Marinduque Governor Carmencita O. Reyes is facing graft and corruption charges before the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) for allegedly delaying the construction of the airport runway in Gasan town. In filing a joint criminal complaint, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption and ex-Marinduque Board Member Melecio Go also asked the OMB to suspend Reyes so that the cementing of the runway can be completed. It states the Department of Transportation and Communications awarded in 2013 the cementing of the runway to three contractors, including Sargasso Construction owned by Go. The two contractors had already finished their jobs, but Sargasso could not complete the cementing of its 147-meter part of the runway because Reyes refused to grant permit to extract and process gravel and sand aggregates.
