History of Marinduque News

Marinduque News Network (MNN) traces its origins to January 1, 2013, when Romeo A. Mataac, Jr., known to many as DJ Myong, a native of Torrijos, Marinduque, launched a blog-platform called Marinduque News Online originally marinduquenews.blogspot.com. Its mission was simple yet ambitious: to provide timely and relevant information about the province of Marinduque.

In its early years, the site grew slowly, maintaining a low profile until the 2016 national elections. With the surge of social media’s influence in public life, Marinduque News emerged as a key source of local reporting, particularly election-coverage, and began attracting substantial internet traffic as the 2016 contests were widely considered the first “social media election” in Philippine history.

On June 3, 2016, with the help of Gilbert J. Jacolbia, a native of Boac, Marinduque, residing in Canada, the platform moved to a dedicated domain, marinduquenews.com, establishing a more professional and permanent presence on the web. Less than a year later, on March 30, 2017, the name was changed from Marinduque News Online (MNO) to Marinduque News Network (MNN). Around that time, MNN partnered with Lucky Seven Cable owned by Mrs. Rita Sy, to broadcast its programs via local cable on Community Channel 3, expanding beyond digital into cable television.

By January 20, 2020, MNN had formalized its operations. It was registered as a business entity with a legal name of Marinduque News Network Advertising Services in Boac and set up a regional operation under Managing Director Adrian O. Rosales. A studio was constructed on the 5th Floor of Lucky 7 Pension House in Barangay Murallon, Boac.

Today, MNN is the leading multimedia news network in Marinduque. With hundreds of thousands of combined followers on Facebook, YouTube, X, TikTok, and Instagram, plus significant reach in households via local cable, it serves as the premier source of news, information, culture, and community service in the province. Through accurate, independent reporting and diversified media channels, MNN continues to be the eyes, ears, and voice of the Marinduqueños.
